TallyBill
Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
TallyBill scans restaurant receipts and splits them between people. This policy explains what the app collects, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and how to delete it.
You can use TallyBill without an account
You can create a bill, scan a receipt, assign items and see per-person totals as a guest, without registering. If you use TallyBill this way, we do not collect your name or email address. Guest bills are not saved to a history you can return to across devices.
Signing in is optional and exists so your bills persist, so you can save groups of people as Circles, and so you can join a bill someone shares with you.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Name and email address | To create and identify your account. Collected only if you register. |
| Account identifier | To associate your bills, circles and receipts with your account. |
| Receipt photographs | To read the line items, prices and totals off your receipt. |
| Bill contents | Bill names, item names, prices, the names you give people on a bill, and the amounts each person owes. |
| Approximate country | Determined from your network address to pick a sensible default currency. Not stored, and not associated with your account. |
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, your browsing or search history, or usage analytics. TallyBill contains no advertising and no advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not sell or share your data, and we do not use it for tracking or advertising.
Who else processes your data
TallyBill relies on the following external services, each for a specific task:
- Clerk handles registration, sign-in and session management. Your name, email address and credentials are held by Clerk.
- Replit hosts the TallyBill server and database, and operates the AI gateway that receipt scanning runs through. Receipt photographs pass through Replit on their way to the vision model.
- OpenAI supplies the vision model (GPT-4o) that reads the line items, prices and totals off your receipt, and that translates item names when you ask it to. Your receipt photograph is sent to it for that purpose and for no other.
- Google Cloud Storage holds the receipt photographs themselves. Deleting a bill removes its photograph from storage; deleting your account removes all of them.
- ip-api.com converts your network address into a country code so the app can default to the right currency. We do not store the result.
None of these are advertising networks or data brokers. They act on our instructions to deliver features you asked for.
Replit and OpenAI process receipt photographs under their own terms rather than ours, and those terms may allow them to retain a copy for a limited period for abuse monitoring. We do not control that retention and we do not receive any copy back. We never send your name, your email address, or the names you give people on a bill to either of them — only the receipt photograph, plus the item names themselves when you ask for a translation.
How long we keep things
Receipt images are kept indefinitely. When you scan a receipt, the photograph is stored so you can refer back to it from the bill. It remains stored until you delete the bill it belongs to, or delete your account.
Bill contents and account details are retained for as long as your account exists. Guest bills persist on our servers until deleted.
Deleting your data
You can delete an individual bill at any time from the bill screen. Deleting a bill removes the bill, its line items, and its stored receipt image.
To remove everything, open Settings โ Delete account in the app. This permanently deletes:
- your account and sign-in credentials;
- every bill you own, with its line items and stored receipt images;
- your Circles and their members;
- your participation in bills owned by other people.
This cannot be undone, and we do not retain a copy. Bills owned by other people that you were part of remain theirs; your entry is removed from them.
Bills you share
Every bill has a six-character join code. Anyone you give that code to can open the bill and see its contents โ item names, the names of the people on it and what each person owes. Share codes only with people you intend to split with.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on access-controlled infrastructure. Receipt images are served only to people authorised to view the bill they belong to. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
TallyBill is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. The in-app deletion described above satisfies deletion requests immediately. For anything else, contact us using the address below.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
